General:
Perennial herb from a short rhizome, lacking stolons; stems erect, to 20 cm tall, simple, single or a few together, green or sometimes reddish, upper internodes with fine curved hairs in lines.
Leaves:
Basal leaves in a compact rosette, oblong-elliptic, blunt; stem leaves alternate above, opposite or nearly so below, linear, flat, 2-5 cm long, blunt, entire or somewhat toothed, margins fringed with hairs.
Flowers:
Inflorescence few-flowered, terminal, flowers nodding when young; petals 4-5 mm long, whitish; sepals glabrous.
Fruits:
Capsules, glabrous or usually becoming so; seeds 1-2 mm long, pimply, tuft of hairs present, dingy.
